The Tropicana Club
In 1946, After WW2, at a time when Nightclubs were
synonymous with Glamour and the Academy
award winning film "Marty" was shot at the Starland
Ballroom in the Bronx. The Tropicana became
the most glamorous and famous nightclub in the Bronx
and probably the entire country,when in the
TV series,Ricky Ricardo,played by Cuban-
born ,
was a singer and bandleader at
the Tropicana nightclub with many
scenes being shot
there. The original Tropicana in the Bronx,
Inspired by the
glitzy Tropicana Cabaret in Havana,and the
Tropicana in Las Vegas,was a Mecca for Latinos seeking
first-rate dance bands,and floor shows. "Dancing under the stars at the Tropicana" became a
infamous line for club which was famous for its
Art deco interior and
Deco stars hanging over the entire
club.
Now Located just Five blocks north from its Original
Location at 915 Westchester Avenue is the new
Tropicana at 1061 Home street off Westchester Ave. The
New Tropicana pays Homage to it famous past
with a
carefully recreated art Deco interior as well as the original
Deco stars. Once again New Yorkers can "Dance under the
Stars
at the World Famous Tropicana in the Bronx"
